In a recent episode of the podcast, Dr. Susan B. Kocael, chair of the department of rheumatology at Harvard Medical School, discussed the use of celecoxib (Celebrex) in rheumatoid arthritis patients. She emphasized that the use of celecoxib was first approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1999. The FDA approved Celebrex in 2002, and is now widely used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in both the United States and the world.
Celebrex is a drug that is indicated for the management of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Celebrex works by decreasing the production of prostaglandins and other substances involved in inflammation. It is not approved for use in rheumatoid arthritis or other inflammatory conditions.

Celebrex is used to reduce the symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), the inflammation of the spine, with a high prevalence of osteoarthritis (OA), the narrowing of the blood vessels that supply the joints, and the presence of fibrosis (thinning of the bone). Celebrex is also used to treat acute pain in adults with arthritis, the condition when other pain relievers are ineffective. In some cases, it may also be prescribed in combination with other drugs to treat other conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.
Celebrex is approved to treat mild to moderate pain (such as back pain, muscle pain, sprains, strains and bruises), as well as to treat post-operative pain. It can also be used to relieve the pain of acute headaches and migraines, and to relieve the pain of muscle sprains and strains and bruises.
Celebrex is approved to be used along with acetaminophen (Tylenol) for the relief of mild to moderate pain and arthritis pain. In the U. S., it is also approved for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, and for the management of moderate to severe pain, as well as in patients with a history of rheumatoid arthritis.
Celebrex has been used as a treatment for arthritis since the late 1980s. However, some people may not take it to manage pain. People who may take celebrex should discuss with their physician with regard to the use of Celebrex in their medical history, the possibility of a history of a serious allergic reaction to the drug, and any other known drug interactions with celecoxib. It is also important to tell your doctor if you are taking other medications or if you are taking any other drugs you may be taking, to inform them of any changes you notice.
Celebrex is indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis, a condition that affects the joints, the lining of the joint, and the muscles of the body. It can be used to treat mild to moderate pain (such as back pain, muscle pain, sprains, strains and bruises), and to relieve pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Celebrex is available over-the-counter or by prescription. It is also available in capsule form. The capsule may be taken orally, once or twice daily.
Celebrex is also used to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, tenderness and swelling, and to reduce inflammation and swelling of the joints, such as the joints of the spine. In addition to reducing the symptoms of arthritis, Celebrex may also be used to treat ankylosing spondylitis.
Celebrex is indicated to be used in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis as well as to reduce the risk of developing osteoarthritis. The usual dose is 200 mg to 400 mg every 12 hours as needed, for a period of four to six weeks.
Celebrex is not approved for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis. It is also not indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis or the prevention or treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
The use of Celebrex in people with osteoarthritis may increase the risk of developing a heart attack or stroke. The risk increases with concomitant use of aspirin and other NSAIDs.
Celebrex is usually taken orally once a day.
How to take Celebrex:
Take Celebrex exactly as your doctor has prescribed you. Do not take more than once a day. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water.Use only as directed.
